A sketch produced in 2013 during Phil Tyler's colour theory mentorship. A memory of Namibia; a visit to the sand dunes long ago. This one has a white, rainless cloud in the picture, a memory of how clouds would sail over the parched land, never releasing a drop of rain. The colour complement is blue and orange, in this case a deep saturated blue and a lighter tint of orange, which makes the combination 'pop'. I came to adore this combination as it is also a combination of fleshtones light and shade. This is also an experiment with the palette knife, using the knife to mix and smooth the pigments on textured paper. The white cloud stands out, alien in this colour scheme.

I use creativity to explore my identity, to interpret and meditate on mind, body, nature, the world. I paint and draw and write and sometimes combine all three in digital mediums. Some of my recent work reflects the social and political reality. I've been drawing from life in pastels, pencils and charcoal since my teens. I've been painting since 2007, and have been involved in artists groups in Manchester, Zimbabwe and Brighton. I'm a Dad and I live in Brighton. My parents were both artists. My art blog is here: Prints and T Shirts - nickname ruska - For info on the arts scene in my location around Brighton, England, please visit my blog:
