About The Artwork

Classical mythology inspires me. The myth of Persephone and her half-year life with Hades and half a year on Earth, with her mother Demeter, is quite unsettling. Persephone slipped beneath Earth and Hades stole her to the Underworld, where he made her his wife. While Demeter was desperately looking for her daughter, the Earth was drying up. Demeter begs Zeus to allow Persephone to return to life, leaving the underworld. Zeus talks to Hades and convinces him to let her go, but meanwhile, Persephone ate four seeds of a grenade, which means she would have to return to the underworld. Persephone must return to the underworld for six months of the year, but she was allowed to spend the remaining half of the year with his Mother Earth, Demeter. During the time that Persephone stays away from her mother and confined to the underworld, the Earth becomes sterile and the sad Winter season occurs. The return of Persephone to Earth with her mother causes the goddess Demeter to fulfill her mission to germinate plants and spring comes. I have chosen different colors for the face, blue to simulate Winter and pink to reflect Spring, bright hair to the wind completes the feeling of joy of spring. Her hieratic face expresses the strength with which she accepts her destiny.

"In her work the faces seem to change their meaning through a special light and get a different interpretative perspective from the viewer. A great femininity, but also a great strength, is what these women transmit, which are the source of inspiration for the artist. The expression of the spirituality of these women is her main objective". Marcello Cazzaniga (Camaver Kunsthaus). I was born and raised in Madrid, Spain. I have a Degree in Biochemistry and a Master in Molecular Genetics, although my current career is as a painter. Aside from that I have an interest and training in photography, illustration, Art History, and graphic design. I'm passionate about portraits, my goal is to reflect the expressions of the people, their innermost feelings. I'm interested in anatomy as a tool to give the figure, or the face, consistency, volume and balance. Lighting attracts my full attention, as light brings volumes, shapes, sensations, feelings into life The female figure gives me serenity, strength, I am inspired by women with defiant attitude. While painting time slips through my fingers, I feel free, flowing, with a strength that sometimes amazes me.
