About The Artwork
This painting was inspired by New York Harbor in the late 1800's to early 1900's, when Pilot Schooners were still delivering Pilots to guide ships in and out of the harbor, and the first stop for immigrants in America was Ellis Island. The Pilot Schooners went out in all types of weather, and I wanted to contrast the Schooner fighting against the high wind and waves against the strength and safety of the Ellis Island buildings, just as the immigrants faced dangers in their travels and had now reached their dream and relative safety of America.
