About The Artwork

Poet Amanda Gorman Painting Modern Neo expressive portrait painting on stretched canvas As an artist, I was instantly inspired to paint Amanda Gorman after watching and LISTENING to her poem THE HILL WE CLIMB during the presidential inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Struck by the wisdom of her words and the power she conveyed using her hands, I debated putting some of those words in this painting. But she cannot be defined by one poem. I feel she is a work in progress and there is much more greatness to come from her, that’s why she isn’t painted in “fully”. There is greatness in her wise soul and much more to be fleshed out as she comes into her own. Some say she is the next Maya Angelou – but I shy from comparisons. How does one even begin to compare individuals, we are all part of the whole… As usual with every portrait painting, I do exhaustive research. It helps me to feel their spirit while painting them. Amanda Gorman is a light, who shines ever so brightly. Portrait painting of the first US national youth poet laureate and its youngest ever inaugural poet. Spray paint and acrylic paint on 20″ x 16″ x .75″ stretched canvas with sides painted white. Signed front left and en verso. Accompanied by certificate of authenticity and provenance document. Does not come framed – frame in photo is for viewing purposes only.

Globally collected artist Deb Breton is an abstract expressionist artist living & working in Northern California, U.S. Hi, I’m Deb, In school, I was that quirky kid who was always drawing during English Literature class, or backstage painting sets for the Drama Department. At the top of my “career,” I was an artist for notable clients Nestle, Warner Brothers, and the Dali Museum. But I was not happy with the corporate hustle. So, I picked up woodturning, which eventually led me full circle back to painting. You will find me in my studio working with acrylics, oils, ink, and spray paint. My tools are oftentimes things like sponges, flowers, branches, and squeegees. I tend to break many of the rules that I was taught in art. But the hardest thing for me to learn was how to step out of my own way and let creativity flow. My art reflects my scattered mind —inspired by life, nature, the universe and sometimes even the beat of my playlist. It is extremely difficult for me to stay on script—my ADHD ensures that. Luckily, I find peace and calm in painting. Art is a reminder for us to honor our authentic selves in a world that often tries to box us in.
