This series is based upon African leaders whose reign lasted long enough for them to appear on a Banknote. I will state that in painting these figure heads I am not in any way appreciating their historical significance or aligning myself with their political beliefs. This series was purely looking at African leaders who appeared on banknotes. My mother has stated that she believes my politics have been influenced by these characters, and that she believes that to be a truly worrying situation, I will relate that I believed that I was recording and documenting something of historical value. I believed that XLIV were the roman numerals for the end of Nero's reign and therefore the end of the tenure of one of the first dictators the world has known. I will state that the historical value of the reigns of these African leaders should be aligned with the knowledge that they were rebuilding their cultural heritage, national pride, economies and self esteem after colonial powers had had their ways with these countries.

Morocco
I live in Marrakech, I am an autodidact, I am currently learning arabic and Darija (moroccan arabic). Before Morocco I lived in Spain and taught myself Spanish. I do not believe that a meaningful life should be easy, I like a challenge, learning Darija and running the family 'business' has been my greatest challenge so far. I left the U.K. when I was 24, I have travelled through a bit of Europe and now hopefully Africa. As a child I was diagnosed with dyslexia, which was first noticed when I was to take part in a school play where all the other children in my class had lines to learn, I had a noise to make, later my child psychoanalyst would state that my first language had been a visual language.
