ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Initially, I was inspired to paint Priestess from a photo of a flower dramatically lit. However, as is often the case what I set out to paint shifts over time. I didn't realize until I neared completion that Priestess was the third in a series of red flowers I've painted. The first in 2009, the first painting I did after nearly giving up painting. It was painted with leftover palette from my paint very quickly. The second, which is called Red Flower, I painted in 2016 when I returned to painting with the intention of becoming a professional artist. When I painted Red Flower, I didn't know what I was painting. It had many phases, at one point it resembled a fist or an anatomical heart more than a flower. Lastly, I painted Priestess in 2021, it felt like rebirth and finally the flower was ready to bloom. I hope viewers will be immersed by it, the center of the flower is gold and feels a bit like an oracle.

I am an intuitive and self-taught artist currently based in Rochester, NY. My paintings are a deeply personal meditative process where I alchemize emotions, experiences, and esoteric studies. There is a connection between my emotional landscape and inner vision, a form of synesthesia. I see all of my experiences through the lens of color and channel this onto canvas. The central theme of my work is healing, my own and that of the world. Pain is universal and I hope to provide beauty and a new lens of seeing as a salve to our shared grief. I'm not only interested in making, I believe art is a conversation and my deepest joy is in discovering what the viewer sees in the work, it is in this conversation where my creativity expands.
