This picture is inspired by the Second World War anti aircraft gun platforms which stand in the Thames Estuary downstream from London. Visting them on a boat I was overwhelmed by their other worldliness and at the same time by their anthropomorphism and just had to paint them as rain spirits.

I am a self taught artist who has has not had any tuition and so I am as free as anyone can be to do as I please, with no superimposed ideas of what being 'creative" is. I have always drawn and painted figuratively, sometimes varying my style to let the medium speak, but always following the same path. My aim is to express the gentle shock of otherness and the strange life of people and things. I am influenced by my upbringing in a coastal town, my experience of disability, and by the figurative tradition from Caravaggio through Vermeer to Spencer and Freud.
