Red Race Horse Print

This ink and acrylic mix media work captures the power, speed and drama of horseracing. It was made using found 1950’s photographs as reference and its origins are echoed in the monochrome, almost abstract blurred background. The nearest hoof advances towards us through its extreme foreshortening, almost bursting through the canvas. The deep red of the horse and the use of a gloss varnish are in stark contrast to background and convey the size and power of the animal, whilst the figure of a jockey is left vague and implied in comparison to the immediacy of the horse. The painting is framed with a simple white frame that compliments the work. It is ready to hang.
