About The Artwork

It took me 18 days to copy paint this Picasso’s painting “Harlequin and His Companion”. While some believe the painting depicts “Two Acrobats”, further Googling suggests the woman with a bun in her hair is likely a prostitute. Picasso created this work during his second stay in Paris in 1901, closely observing the lives of the lower class. The figures' resigned expressions seem to convey their bleak struggle to survive. This painting is said to have inaugurated Picasso’s Blue Period. The original hangs in Moscow’s Pushkin Museum where I visited shortly before the 2019 pandemic. With my attention consumed by the Egyptian artifacts exhibition, I regrettably missed a chance to view this painting up close. If I had known this painting was in the museum somewhere nearby, even if I had to crawl, I would have stubbornly searched for it to take a selfie

As an artist, the stark whiteness of paper ignites my creativity. I wield oil paints as my tools of rebellion, transforming the untouched canvas into a maelstrom of shapes and strokes. My childhood years were cradled by a village nestled beside a tropical jungle, with babbling streams & insects as my companions. It’s like Mother Nature was my personal muse, whispering sweet nothings about colors and chaos. In my art, I strive to weave together the exuberance of unrestrained joy with the narrative power of colors, crafting pieces that are bold, vibrant, and audacious. Living in Penang, Malaysia, is like being in a kaleidoscope, and my art? It’s like sharing a piece of that rainbow-infused, life-sized kaleidoscope with the world. Watch out, blank canvases, here I come !
