About The Artwork
Small oil etude painting with a piece of city landscape, architecture of the Old Town of Riga. The city of Riga is over 800 years old. Since its inception, it has always been a trading city. And it has absorbed the influence of different cultures. Here we see a very nice small yard, with tree and balcony. Under the balcony is a small street one table wide. And here is a small but very popular restaurant. Summer, sunset, evening. I like this yard very much, because it is not typical to Riga. And it looks like a frame from an old cinema film about It is close to impressionism or expressionism style, with bright colours and warming mood. Artwork was created in 2019. Oil on canvas and carton.

Searching for my own path in painting took me a certain time. It has passed nine years since my first attempts to paint. However, during last several years I have started feeling self-assured, as my works reached desired level of skilfulness and artistic approach, and I really started liking them. Currently my love to post-impressionist artists' paintings became especially strong. I am often inspired by the works of Vincent van Gogh, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Edouard Vuillard, Albert Marquet, and Latvian artist Janis Valters. Most of all I value coloristic beauty of their works as well as the artists’ ability to show the weather conditions and the state of the nature with one brush stroke. Now I look into the future with greater confidence, think over new creative plans, and expect fulfilling them!
