About The Artwork

Late afternoon sunlight casts rays of light and shadows across the river where mayflies are hatching and the trout are rising. The inspiration for this painting comes from many wonderful days of fly fishing on the Cache la Poudre River in northern Colorado. Fall is my favorite time with mountain foliage colors reflecting in the cool clear water. Look closely and see the telltale sign of trout rising to feed on the surface.

Since childhood I've alway had a love for art and have learned to paint as a hobby. I began selling my art while I was in high school, by painting animal portraits and other commissioned paintings. My paintings fulfill my desire to share the beauty of western landscapes, wildlife, culture and history. From endless prairies with big skies and wide open spaces to the rugged summits of snowcapped mountain peaks comes my inspiration. I have always been an observer of life and enjoy studying all the fine details that contribute to the whole and capturing the energy in everything we experience. Many of us, in our hurried lifestyles, look at things, but don't take time to see them. In my art I help the viewer to see the world around us. I like to combine realistic, impressionistic and abstract elements in a representational way. This allows the viewer's eyes to interpret the painting and spark their imagination to see it their way and feel the energy of the moment. When I see the viewer's expression and sense of peace I know my efforts were worthwhile. I hope that my paintings will remind viewers of nature’s beauty and that it’s wildlife are worthy of our respect.
