About The Artwork

Subject: Cañari and Incan Constructions at Museo Pumapungo, Cuenca, Ecuador Description: This work depicts the terraces of the Pumapungo Ruins in Cuenca, Ecuador dating back to the time of the Cañaris and later used as an Incan fortress, observatory, and religious center. I was struck by how the earth itself has been used as a material to create places for human habitation throughout history, from the early terraces to the modern brick condo tower in the background. This piece was completed through a series of plein-air drawing sessions and painted in the studio. Process: Plein-air drawing, painted in studio.
