My boss at work gave me a somewhat tatty image of her and her boyfriend taken in a department store when she was a teenage runaway in 1970's Glasgow. The story she told me touched me so deeply that I just had to try and make a painting out of it.

My aim is to express the gentle shock of otherness and the strange life of people and things. I am influenced by my upbringing in a coastal town, my experience of disability, and by the figurative tradition from Caravaggio through Vermeer to Spencer and Freud.
