About The Artwork
My version of The Little Mermaid is inspired by Slavic mythology. In Slavic myths there are many stories about creatures living in water. In myths, the union of humans and mermaids were forbidden or doomed to fail. I wanted to present a non-heteronormative version of such a story. It is easy to find similarities in how relationships between two men were/are stigmatized in present society.
