This painting is divided into two sections, the bottom third consists of a series of highways and intersections during rush hour, and rivers infested with unknown dangerous creatures, perhaps Brazil's infamous piranhas. The top two thirds depict two separate regions, an industrial park on one side of a valley and a gleaming metropolis on the other side. These two centers are connected by heavy helicopter traffic. The strip dividing the painting is a minimized version of Brazil's shanty towns, known as favelas. This picture depicts the excess of São Paulo's super rich, where helicopter traffic is far from an anomaly and is used to curtail time spent on the road, as well as to avoid the danger of kidnapping, the vulnerability of the "rest" who have to endure the calamities of a commute in the big city and the dangers of violence on the roads, and the people of the favelas, who very much like the Proles in George Orwell's 1984, are not able to speak, can't be heard, and are always ignored.
