The series Angels and Demons and Mirror – Memory, were born after an artistic residency in Japan. The encounter of a culture made of the impalpable presence of the dead, the lanterns slipped on the water… This force of memory that continues to inhabit the place has led to work on the memory that remains inscribed in the body. This series represents a search on an inner and spiritual plane, much more than an observation of the world. It’s a series about emotions and the memory of emotions. On the canvas, in the middle of indistinct or geometric coloured forms, images, figures, as if recovered from memory, are formed. These are nodes of emotions that emerge from the past, even if the image/emotion correspondence is not rationed. Thus images inspired by Japanese art bring back a joy or suffering of a distant past. Emotions are recognized and named by recreating other, external figures, in which the same emotion, joy or suffering, seems to unfold. Emotion imposes itself on what, all around, remains indistinct, confused. Beams of light that put manga or animated characters in the foreground, visions of city walls transformed by street art, ugliness and beauty, without difference. But it is an interior landscape that expresses itself through these images of an external world: emotion creates its alphabet from the images that are imposed daily on sight. Fear, anxiety, poetry. Everything is in these figures that make themselves recognizable.
