Seamless Technology, Precision Design Print

This is another Mare Island discovery. Mare Island is a decommissioned US Navy base east of San Francisco, outside the City of Vallejo. The base hosts many unused buildings. Some are neglected and vandalized, a few are unintentionally open to explore. It attracts realism painters and photographers interested in weathering. I have painted other subjects on Mare Island. The switch box blatantly stands out from the banal wall. I was charmed by its weathered yellows, oranges and reds. Combining time, colorless water and iron (a lack luster, metal element) creates the beautiful luxuriant, rich colors of rust. I always enjoy preserving the result of this common fusion. Wood panels are expensive and require preparation. However, painting on them is pure luxury. I sand the surface very smooth and cover it with gesso, then use oils for a highly accurate, precise result. My painting is professionally enclosed in a blonde wood edge frame.
