About The Artwork

I am very fascinated by the rotational symmetry of poker card design. What if I design two halves that are opposite but look similar? My first point of departure is the similarity between a die and burnt scars on monk’s scalp. What is virtue? What is vice? We love sex, money and wine while monks spend years chanting and meditating, trying hard to suppress worldly desires. Their ultimate desire is to attain enlightenment. Afterall all human beings are creatures of desire, even though desire comes in different shades.

I love art since young and my background in architecture has been keeping me in touch with the world of art and design. It was in 2010 when I started to paint seriously after being influence by the philosophy of Friedrich Schiller. He claimed that creative arts can transform human spirit and I was curious to see how it works. While working as a part time lecturer at Republic Polytechnic I devoted most of my time on painting. Since 2011 I have participated in some group shows in Singapore, Thailand and India. There was a breakthrough in 2018 as I had my first solo show at a commercial gallery in Singapore. After two attempts I was overjoyed to win the UOB Painting of the Year (established category) in 2019. I strongly believe in the transformative power of arts. I always strive to create artworks that are both visually appealing and thought provoking. My ultimate goal is to create a bridge between different realms. The world is increasingly divided but I believe that there is harmony if we see beyond differences. The ancient concept of Oneness has always been fascinating to me. I believe that all beings are connected through interdependence. If we look deeply, stripping away all the masks and outer forms, we would find the same core hidden within every being. Ying and Yang evolve from Oneness and eventually return to the origin.
