About The Artwork

This painting addresses/challenges the concept of dying. It is a collage painting - as scrap pieces of lace are incorporated into it throughout the painting with some folds. The edges are painted white, but are fairly rough and may need to be professionally framed if desired. It has two coats of varnish for UV protection and is signed on the back. The colors are black, white, grey, orange, burnt orange. This painting is part of a collection addressing life/death. This painting ships on a hand-made wooden stretcher and the edges will need to be framed upon arrival.

I was born in Royal Oak, Michigan in 1962 as Patty Jo Beaton which is how I sign my works. Throughout my life, I have lived in several places within the United States including Colorado, Arizona, California, Illinois, North Carolina, Florida and Missouri - but for for over ten years I've lived in Canada. Along the way, I enjoyed experiencing the different cultures and ways of life - southern hospitality, the diversity of City life in Chicago, and being "out west." My first experience with painting was painting my family's old farmhouse with my Father. Later in life, I would take finished works over to him so he could view them. We would discuss the painting and suggestions he had. As far as work, I was a house painter for several years. I worked on historical houses, residential homes and even a couple of churches. All the work was done by hand. I had one very good brush which I was expected to keep clean and use every day. I would paint from 8 to 5 like a regular work day. As far as developing my artistic style, (as you can see from my full catalogue of works) I use many abstract styles. I can't always duplicate certain aspects or stylistic elements. My work is more determined by what comes my way - what I feel and what I'm receiving. It is how I communicate. I've come to realize that some of my works are about things I'm not comfortable doing or wish I could do more easily - like having a party or going out on the town. It is kind of funny that's how I experience those things. Many of my works are also about nature. If you have been to a pristine, natural area you know the feeling I'm trying to capture. Her work has been featured in several exhibits, and her paintings are included in private collections in Malta, Canada, Great Britain, France, United States, China, Germany and Switzerland. Selected sales to the following Interior Design Firms: Looney & Associates, Dallas, Texas Keaton Interiors, Dallas, Texas Carolyn & Co., Rockville, Maryland Muss Designs, Woodmere, New York OAD Interiors, New York City, NY.
