About The Artwork
The beauty of Siesta Lake in Yosemite National Park inspired this painting. I was impressed by the complexity of the web of life in the shallow water of this beautiful reflective lake. I hope the viewer can share some to the wonder that I felt in the quite water and the beautiful blooming water lilies. I chose to paint with oil paint because of the rich color and speed of application. This painting is painted in a splash impressionism style. The idea in this kind of painting style is to present the subject matter of the painting as a splash of light.

I work in Yosemite National Park as a tour guide. I have worked in Yosemite for over 30 years. My artwork is inextricably tied to my Yosemite Geography and my ecological message. I am a plein air painter, print maker, and photographer. I also write and illustrate my own books. I am the author of "A Brief Instruction in Christian Religion," (A translation of Faustus Socinus), "The Chronicles of the Field Mouse Timothy," (Corn,Tomato,Wheat, Cotton, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Paddy, Pond Mouse and Yosemite), "Nature Vision" (Poems), and I have illustrated the short stories of my late daughter Sandra Fontana "Cereal at Midnight." I love nature and the wilderness. I am a proponent of the global national parks movement.
