‘SKATERS’ Print

It's time !! The weather is fine, it's crisp, bright, the temperature's just right, it's time to shout, the skaters are out! People tumbling, falling, whizzing about. Sounds of laughing, the hum of chatter, broken ice chips making a clatter. It all makes up for a great day at the rink, the clock's ticking on, it's time for a drink!! Original Artwork (Without frame) Width: 44.5 cm Height: 26 cm Original picture frame (Outside edge) Width: 58.5 cm Height: 40 cm Depth: 4.3 cm The idea for the painting ‘SKATERS’ was inspired over the years after several visits to ice skating rinks. It consists of mixed media on plywood board with a handmade softwood frame. Starting with a base coat of household white primer, then applying various shades of white with different finishes and silver paint for depth. After drying flat for several days, then adding the figurative work which is mainly gouache, acrylic, metal paint and marker. Finally highlights of gloss yacht varnish and two thick coats of clear satin resin glaze was applied to the surface of the painting and three coats of varnish to the frame. Over time due to atmospheric conditions and the wood drying, slight gaps in the joints of the frame and a yellowing to the gloss highlights has appeared.
