About The Artwork

This is the seventh work in the Soestdijk series. A series she is making about the Soestdijk Palace in Soest, she paid a visit just before it closed its doors to the public. Now the palace is getting a different destination. She was there on a very quiet Sunday morning. Perfect to get a taste of the atmosphere. Splendor and decay.. The chandeliers reflected in the mirror above the fireplace. Beautifully edited wallpaper on both sides. For her, this is a unique painting. Because she accidentally painted a self-portrait. A very small mini portrait in the middle of the work, as a reminder of that silent day in the palace.

Mieke Jonker (1963) started her creative career as a goldsmith (Vakschool Schoonhoven 1999-2003). After graduating Academy of Fine Arts, Arendonk, Belgium/portrait/modellclass(2013), she entirely focused on painting. One of her artworks was nominated for the Alphons Winter prize. The painting was on display at the "Province House" in Maastricht.(2013) One of her artworks was nominated for "The Painting of the Year 2015 of the Netherlands" The painting Because of the dog XI, is on display with other finalist at the CODA Museum in Apeldoorn. In 2017 'Meanwhile in the abbey V' was nominated for 'Painting of the year 2017'and ended on place 10. She has been inspired by the great Dutch painter Rembrandt, especially because of his beautiful compositions, colors and above all because of his signature. Her paintings in oil, are build up in several transparant layers. By using harmonious colors, a strong composition and her own signature, she tries to achieve a moving serene atmosphere in a painting. https://www.miekejonker.nl https://facebook.com/MiekeJonkerPaintings @ jonkermieke
