Something Old Print

I painted this one at night, I used only the light from the candle to study the objects in the picture, I had a separate light which I turned on to mix my palette and off again to observe, I did this for the whole time it took to paint this so that the viewer would also only see the piece lit by candle and no other light source. I called it Something Old as a reference to a wedding, however, this caused Some debate between my friends about which is the oldest of the objects in the picture, at first most said the bottle of whisky as its twelve years, in fact the candle is older than the whisky, it came from a batch in a box I bought, apparently recovered from an old abandoned hospital, then there's the key, this came from an empty house my friends and I would explore in the village where we grew up and dates from before the second world war but by far the oldest object and the one overlooked by most people is the stone on which the bottle stands, this is one of a pair I took from a stream in the Yorkshire Dales and intend to return one day. This one is oil on artists board instead of acrylic on the primed hardboard that I normally use. There is no preliminary sketch for this painting, I just did a rough sketch in pencil straight to the board after priming.
