VIEW IN MY ROOM
As a musician and teacher myself for many years I have pondered what personal factors go into producing audience based live performance. The parrallel lines of how an artist involves the viewer in an intimate space and appeals for recognition on an intense plane. Painting this Glastonbury inspired image is like committing fluid, revealing performance, to what becomes in the end, a static canvas. In the physical act of painting, artist becomes performer and commitment to showmanship becomes impressionistic still life full of lively suggestibility. Finally, like the singer in the painting, the artist will inevitably stand, but hidden in the wings, waiting for any shreds of recognition.

United Kingdom
I have spent half my life in rural north Essex firstly teaching music and then painting. I am primarily self-taught but studied art history including a wonderful summer school at the Royal Holloway College, London. Life drawing and painting under Bruce Ronaldson for three years and observing techniques of artists Philip Richardson and Hashim Akib, particularly admiring Impressionists and Pre-Raphaelites. I am also interested in humour, movement, and how tonal variations flow successfully through a painting. I enjoy choosing a medium to suit a particular theme, but am drawn more to oil and acryllic. I like the full-bodied texture. Yearning for remote ruralities, yet I am excited by the sensory experiences of city life and the 'extraordinary' in the ordinary.' Trying to record the essence of something doesn't have to be beautiful but must contain something real and essentially truthful. It is wonderful that someone else might find a unique connection to what you have produced! All work is signed 'Jo Me', bringing just bare self to the creative journey within a deeply personal expression in art.
