About The Artwork

The feeling of winter in Riga with a soft and delicate palette. A small etude was painted at the end of February with a view of roofs with pipes and a birch tree with birds. I wanted to show peace and quiet in this work. At the same time, we see shadows and the sun is shining. This gives rise to the anticipation of spring. Winter sometimes gives the feeling that time has stopped, no past and no future is lost, just the freezing winter, snow and cold. But surprisingly, heat suddenly breaks through the ice in the form of a thin stream, which then turns into a powerful stream. The special singing of birds also confidently reminds of spring. The picture is painted textured, juicy, the texture of the strokes is visible. In the color scheme of the painting are used delicate shades of gold, lilac and pearl olive. It can be classified as impressionistic or expressionist styles. Oil on canvas on cardboard, 2018.

Searching for my own path in painting took me a certain time. It has passed nine years since my first attempts to paint. However, during last several years I have started feeling self-assured, as my works reached desired level of skilfulness and artistic approach, and I really started liking them. Currently my love to post-impressionist artists' paintings became especially strong. I am often inspired by the works of Vincent van Gogh, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Edouard Vuillard, Albert Marquet, and Latvian artist Janis Valters. Most of all I value coloristic beauty of their works as well as the artists’ ability to show the weather conditions and the state of the nature with one brush stroke. Now I look into the future with greater confidence, think over new creative plans, and expect fulfilling them!
