About The Artwork

It is low tide in the strangely named Gunwalloe Cove in Cornwall and the retreating sea has revealed many intrigiing rock pools. In one of these, a young boy launches his new toy boat for the first time, observed only by his friend and an inquisitive black Labrador. The emotion I wished to convey in this painting is one of nostalgia and the simple pleasures of childhood. It is sold unframed and is painted on the edges so does not require one unless desired.

Born near Tunbridge Wells, Kent, I had a passion for art at an early age and won a number of school and local competitions before studying at Beckenham Art School. I subsequently joined a long established firm of fine art dealers in Bond Street, London, where studying and handling works by well-known artists was my daily privileged occupation and helped me to distil and develop my own style. While there, a number of my paintings were sold to the art department of an exclusive store in Tokyo. Working mostly in oils my landscapes and beach scenes are usually populated by people enjoying the simple pleasures of this environment and I am keen to capture the changing moods of sea and sky. Clouds in particular interest me and feature in most of my work. The areas of the UK which I find particularly fertile for subject matter are the beaches of Cornwall and my home county of West Sussex with its small villages and coast. I have also painted in France, Italy and Greece. I have exhibited and sold my work everywhere from galleries and exclusive clubs and stores in London to provincial art galleries and events and have also carried out a number of commissions. My work may be found in private collections in various parts of the UK, France, Germany, Spain, The United States, Canada, Thailand and Japan.
