ABOUT THE ARTWORK

On a short break in Suffolk we found this spot on the coast with fantastic fish and chips and this old wooden boat. This was the place where all the locals went crabbing with their kids. It’s mostly in acrylic, some pencil, and watercolour.I don’t really want to sell this one; I like it, but I thought it was about time to make some paintings available as there is not a lot of wall space left in the house. When looking at this painting I can almost feel the sea air and taste the salt on the breeze and enjoy that special calm that it brings you.

Clayton Moss is an emerging and naturally gifted self-taught artist, whose raw talent and intuitive approach have quickly garnered attention in the contemporary art scene. Born and raised in a small town in the North of England,Moss discovered his passion for art at an early age, finding solace and expression in drawing and painting. Despite lacking formal training, Moss's innate understanding of color, composition, and movement set him apart. His work is characterized by the vigorous and spontaneous application of paint, aligning him with the traditions of action painting and gestural abstraction. Influenced by the masters of these movements, such as Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, Moss's piece Immediate Pink exude a raw energy and emotional intensity that captivate viewers. Moss's journey into action painting began as a personal exploration. Using his studio as a laboratory, he experimented with various techniques and materials, often applying paint directly onto large canvases laid on the floor. This method allowed him to engage physically with his work, creating dynamic and unpredictable compositions that reflect his emotional state and inner turmoil. His process is highly intuitive, with each stroke and gesture revealing a deep connection between the artist and his medium. Without the constraints of academic tradition, Moss has developed a unique style that is both innovative and deeply personal. His works are characterized by bold, sweeping gestures, vibrant colors, and complex textures. These elements combine to create a sense of movement and spontaneity, inviting viewers to experience the immediacy and intensity of the artist's creative process. In recent years, Moss's work has started to attract attention beyond his local community. As Moss continues to evolve as an artist, he remains committed to exploring the boundaries of action painting and gestural abstraction. His work, unbounded by formal constraints, reflects a deep and genuine engagement with the act of creation. Clayton Moss is a compelling new voice in contemporary art, and his future contributions promise to further enrich the dialogue within these dynamic and expressive genres.
