About The Artwork
For this oil on oil paper painting I started with the idea of creating a composition showing a character who was a mixture of human and flower parts. I first drew a woman with a spine made of thorns then the composition evolved into more of a representation of a human sunflower. When I was quite unwell a few months ago I bought sunflowers to brighten my room. I remember it as one of he first signs that my mood was slowly lifting up. These flowers were like little suns that brought light into my home. I think this is what ended up waving itself into this painting. This work more generally is about transformation and growth from hardship and slowly blossoming again after a difficult period in life.
