About The Artwork

Sway is inspired by the Drake passage. Drake passage is a body of water between Cape Horn, Chile and Antarctica. To reach Antarctica, you have to cross Drake Passage. It is known for being extremly rough, with really high waves and extremely difficult to cross and it takes around 4 days to cross it. Why do I know all this? Beacuse I love penguins and they are in Antacrtica and I have seen every possible documentary showing the journey to reach there and explain everything about Antarctic and penguins. It's my go to when I am in a bad mood. Put on a "Journey to Antarctica" video and I am good. So now, since Drake passage is so rough, the ships (These are huge mighty ships) rock and sway up and down, huge waves crashing on decks of these ships. It is scary as hell but somehow also calming, hence the name. That's how I got this idea to create this painting, capture the movement on the ship when it passes through that passage, going up and down. If you look closely, it's 3 semi circles swaying from a center point and the outer circle is like the passage itself. Also, it's almost spring and I am seriously loving this green shade, that's why this painting in in tints and shades of green. I originally planned to do it in blue but did not find the right shade and also, it was getting too literal. I added different shades just show transparency and give a sense of layering (like each semi circle is layered on top of each other) I added those thin white lines, just to add some drama and movement in this painting.

Hi! I am Radhika an abstract artist, based out of Delhi, India. My art explores my thoughts, emotions, and experiences acting as a window into my life. Using acrylic on canvas my work is minimal, bright, clean, and involves a fun play of different geometric shapes aligned together to form a cohesive pattern. The balance & interplay of different elements evokes a sense of harmony & joy. Striking yet pleasant in nature, each artwork conveys my emotions and aims to awe the beholder with the magic of colors and shapes. Spreading sunshine one painting at a time.
