Jannette Catharina Otten, born in Meppel in 1967 and I live since 1998 in Arnhem, The Netherlands. In my childhood I always have drawn and painted a lot. I was an only child from a technical dad and a creative mum. Driven by my fantasy and special things this was one of my numerous hobbies. When I had to choose my subjects for secondary school, I choose -beside languages and Geography- Art + Art History. Art History and the possibility of using an enormous amount of material was like a party for me. Trying out a lot, mix techniques and concluding that it was beautiful or horrifying. My Art teacher always gave good tips to improve. I didn’t go to Art Academy though, my parents had the opinion that I had to study for a better job. Anyways, I studied Social Studies and English (bac.) and worked in several fields. Last 20 years I was an English teacher and examiner, which is also interesting. During my life I followed different painting classes and thanks to the digital world I can follow them online as well. But, most interesting is the “learning by doing” part! Painting is a practical skill and nothing is more fun than ordering new material and try it out!
