About The Artwork
This series was inspired by my first couple of years in Sydney. I was watching Sex & the City & found a similarity between New York & Sydney. Whilst they are very different cities, the TV show portrayed a similar landscape. In my initial years in Sydney, it was chaotic, dark yet colourful. I started painting this series in 2002 then pushed them aside for over a decade. In that time, they settled into their colour, creating depth & a maturity they didn't previously have. In 2018-2019, I finished the series by creating texture & manipulating the surface resulting in creating depth. I experimented with painting acrylic black paint on a wet white oil base. The black paint was a metaphor for how I felt at that time; I was there to stay but not sure how or where I fitted in. The black paint made its own path. I added clear silicone to the coloured areas to represented excitement. The line represents moving through the motions of life; settling in, finding a job, moving house & meeting new friends. Each piece in the series is a representation of my life at that time. Oil & acrylic on sealed MDF board.

A multi-skilled artist – Painter, print-maker & photographer. After studying Fine Art in my hometown of Newcastle, I moved to Brisbane to develop my business marketing skills. Continuing my love to create, I subsidised my studies by making & selling mosaic & decorative mirrors on consignment via retail outlets & markets. Stoking the fire of my passion, I continued to create not only for myself but for the Brisbane community through street art murals. After finalising my Business/Marketing studies, I made the move to Sydney and began my marketing career. I continued to create whenever I could while working full time in global digital marketing. I love using both sides of my brain; I get to be creative in a technical way. I've reached a point where I can focus less on my marketing career & more on my art creation. I take in inspiration from around the world whenever I can. Inspired by Pop Art, music & New York art of the 80s, Picasso, Dali, Miro, Kandinsky & Klee also offer a feast for my imagination. My favourite place is my imagination. I see creativity as my therapy, it’s how I process life. I don’t like to draw or paint what my eyes see; I prefer to create what my imagination sees. My photographic abstraction technique allows me to do that with photography. No restrictions because creativity has no boundaries.
