About The Artwork

This painting by Late Shri Manasmoy Sarkar is a story of a Sadhu’s (Holy man) journey. He spends some portion of his life in one temple and then moves on to another temple. The temples are so high. So many steps to climb. The Sadhu is tired. But the glow in his heart gives him energy. And so he will keep climbing from one peak to another eternally searching for that small resting space where he can meditate and be one with our Lord. This piece needs to be framed behind glass

Hello! I am Sourav Sarkar. A Bengali by birth, a Graphic designer by profession and a Painter by heart. I was born in Kolkata, but grew up in Mumbai. Now I stay in Thane. My interest in Art started from my family, as my Father and Mother were both students of Calcutta Government Art College. My Uncle holds a Padma Shri for his art. This interest helped me win an Inter-college Art competitions when I was a student, since childhood. Some of the paintings are by me and some are by my Dad, Shri Manasmoy Sarkar, who was a great commercial artist and one of the top 4 Scraper Board artists in India. He had also won couple of international portrait contests as a student of Kolkata Government Art College. After his retirement he resumed painting. At the age of 82, on 24th February 2018 he left us to be with our heavenly creator. My career as an artist started when for an advertising agency, a Cartoon I made for one of the clients was chosen. This went on to me making many Cartoons and Caricatures for various clients to be printed in posters, in house & industrial magazines and some newspaper ads. One of my Cartoons which was a spoof on Top Ad Gurus, got printed in the Ad Club annual diary, and got some mention in “The Brief”, which was a magazine printed for the Advertising Industry by Mid-Day. Then I went on into Graphic & Web designing and along with websites, did Digital graphics and Print media designing. This career has now spanned 20 years. I felt I had much more creativity to give to the world. Many ideas kept buzzing. My friends from College knew my potential as an artist, from the posters I made during college elections. They urged me. So I asked a famous Artist from Thane, Shri Bharat Nagarkar to be my Guru & guide. Since then I have made and sold many paintings through Social media and Watsapp. I like to make paintings which have happy thoughts and tell a story. This makes them interesting and also helps them spread the happy glow, wherever they find a home. Currently I am doing paintings on paper ant mount board, using water and poster colours. In future I aim to also do acrylic & oils on canvas. Hope you appreciate my Art and feel happy.
