About The Artwork

This painting was one of a series made when I lived in Fitzroy, Australia. Fitzroy is, in a way, like my art….or maybe, I should say that my art is an illustration of Fitzroy and its essence – often bold but at times coy, adult and mature but with elements of child-like whimsy, evolving but with resonating familiarity, egalitarian but also sympathetic to, and encouraging of, cultural peaks and diversity, socialistic but also full of individualism, and at times, forbidding but beneath it all, very welcoming. My paintings have evolved from collections of ephemera, Fitzroy icons and my favourite experiences in this most diverse of suburbs. I love all elements of popular and pulp culture and again Fitzroy has this in abundance. My paintings are designed to provoke and draw the viewer into each painting’s small representational world. I use text and familiar images, Fitzroy icons and provocative concepts – all in the quest to convey the essence of Fitzroy.

I am an Australian artist, living and working in my studio in London. My work includes painting, collage, mixed media, prints and installations I enjoy working with the different elements and piecing them together to create some kind of logic and order. There is a fundamental pleasure in connecting images together to create something that did not previously exist. There is a landfill of ideas out there and a universe of nonsense that needs sorting. I am drawn to artists who push the envelope, unafraid of producing works and images that may be confronting, but always thought-provoking. My main influences are Peter Blake, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Paul Klee, Joseph Cornell, Nick Bantock, Ray Johnson, James Jean, Raymond Pettibon PLEASE NOTE FROM TIME TO TIME SOME WORKS ARE MARKED "NOT FOR SALE" DUE TO INCLUSION IN AN EXHIBITION OR AN ART FAIR. IT WOULD ONLY BE FOR A SHORT TIME AND THE WORKS WILL BE BACK FOR "SALE" AS SOON AS THE SAID EVENT HAS ENDED. IF SOLD AT AN EVENT OF COURSE THEY WILL BE MARKED "SOLD".
