A painting about paint! As always with my paintings, an image came to me - a man dripping with liquid, an expression of his soul. In one way this is about the process of creativity - the model is an artist himself. For the creative, art becomes a life blood of your existence. I chose blue as a colour both potent and serene; the colour of sky and sea. Paint trickles over the face and through the fingers. It is a constant, maybe unbearable flow, uncontrolled as life itself. The medium of oil paint is densely worked. I spend many weeks building up layers which can attain a three dimensional texture and whilst almost abstract when viewed in proximity form an intense realism when you step back.

Always the human - a source of fascination to be endlessly revisited. The people in my paintings are so often poised in abeyance, questioning, balanced in a world of absurdity or the bizarre. Some are more conventional - portraits or figure drawings - but the thread is constant: I seek the pulse of life in my art. My paintings are densely worked in oil on canvas. Whilst at a distance they appear realistic, in proximity they are built from rich texture and spontaneous marks, in places thick with paint. For me painting is a way to attain a state of mind beyond works, and to ignite this same experience in th viewer. Originally from Harrogate, N.Yorshire, I came to London to study Fine Art at St Martin's and have lived here ever since. I've won several awards including The Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize 2018 and the Judges' Choice at The Chaiya Art Awards 2021. I've also been shortlisted for numerous prize shortlists.
