This painting can be perceived very aesthetically. It is a portrait of autumn in brown and orange colors. It has both dynamics and calming in it. Horizontal lines create a calm composition. On the other hand, the diagonal shadow of a tree on a white wall makes it dynamic. On the other hand, the painting has its secret and more philosophical aspect. The bright white wall of the building is a compositional dominant. It is like a picture in a picture: a white wall is another canvas on which what is outside the frame - a tree - is painted. There is no tree in the painting - only its shadow is visible. This tradition of painting what cannot be seen is long. Like the reflection in the mirror in ‘The Arnolfini Portrait’ by Jan van Eyck or the reflections in ‘Hand with Reflecting Sphere’ by Maurits Cornelis Escher. What is not visible becomes visible. It is a long tradition of asking about the limits of a painting and playing with the viewer where reality or art ends and begins. All my paintings are made in laborious and time-consuming technique of application semitransparent layers of oil paint. It is long process which takes usually over one year: each subsequent layer of paint is applied on the already dried layer. It is a very rarely used technique that requires patience and consistency, but thanks to this technique the painting has its unique depth and luminosity.

Agnieszka Wielewska is a painter, but also a set designer and illustrator from Poland. Awarded with many scholarships and prizes and her paintings are exhibited in Poland and abroad. What interest her the most is seeking light: both natural and artificial. Understood in an affirmative way, sanctifying the moment of everyday life. The light is close to poetry that abstract objects and space from their obviousness. Her art focus on tender look for reality. It is a positive narrative with intimate silence.
