About The Artwork

I am a painter that creates narrative paintings based on my own experience. Travel has given me the opportunity to explore cultures outside of my own. In January of 2018, I visited Thailand with a Thai friend. We stayed at her ancestral home in Korat where many of her family members live, and also traveled to different regions. We had many unexpected delights that included seeing a performance of The Ramakien Tales performed at sunset at the ancient ruins of Phamai. This epic story of love and war, originated in the Hindu Ramayana. There are statues, paintings and carvings referring to these tales throughout Thailand. I took many photos and when I returned home to my studio, began making paintings where I inserted myself, as the Blue Fairy, a character I use as an alter ego, into imagery inspired by these tales.

Born in New York City. I am a painter who uses simplified space and bold color to create psychologically charged narrative paintings. My paintings explore social issues that have included: addiction (heroin), survival (cancer), relationships and alienation, and social change (in China). My most comprehensive body of work, Tales, began as a series of paintings, then grew into the basis for my bilingual (English/Spanish) book and film (of the same title), Tales: A Cautionary Story about Heroin Addiction. This film has been screened in numerous international film festivals.
