About The Artwork
The painting depicts a typical Riga landscape in an area of sleeping quarters. People are standing at the bus stop and waiting for their transport. But I wanted to make this plot with an unusual solution in the artwork. I accidentally saw this angle through the trees. I found it interesting, funny, with irony. And I wanted to give the artwork bright, warm colors. And the picture is painted with rich, thick and textured strokes. The work can be attributed to Impressionism or Expressionism. Searching for my own path in painting took me a certain time. It has passed nine years since my first attempts to paint. However, during last several years I have started feeling self-assured, as my works reached desired level of skilfulness and artistic approach, and I really started liking them. Currently my love to post-impressionist artists' paintings became especially strong. I am often inspired by the works of Vincent van Gogh, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Edouard Vuillard, Albert Marquet, and Latvian artist Janis Valters. Most of all I value coloristic beauty of their works as well as the artists’ ability to show the weather conditions and the state of the nature with one brush stroke. Now I look into the future with greater confidence, think over new creative plans, and expect fulfilling them!
