About The Artwork

My works are the outcomes of play and experimentation. They rely on suspension of rules and plans and only ever achieve an aesthetic outcome when notions of control and manipulation are minimised and the images are allowed to emerge. Gravitational forces replace paint brushes in my art practice as I pour viscous solutions of solvent, medium and pigment onto prepared canvas supports. I have little direct control over the way in which the poured liquids spread over the support so that chance intersections and interruptions of the flow and distribution of pigment occur that are either intensely interesting and beautiful or become muddy and ugly.

Using gravity as her paint brush, Reddin produces large abstract artworks that suggest both geological forms and the intricate structures of nature. As engaging up close as they are when viewed from a distance, they ask viewers to reflect on the fragility of life and the fine balance required to preserve an irreplaceable natural world. Jenny's sculptural works are expressions of her love of drawing with metal. Her earlier works focus of describing the human form in its simplest iteration but recently she has simplified further to build cellular structures.
