Artist Recognition
Artist featured in a collection
Some artworks can take years to complete. They remain in the studio waiting for the artist to take them back. In the process, they sometimes seem to find a pictorial solution, which, shortly thereafter, proves to be fragile. Then he returns to the easel and the work table. At that moment, if the artist leans over it with intensity and concentration, inevitably a final version will emerge. The work then follows its path towards what the artist will call a work and can now take other destinations besides the warehouse. This painting went through a process of this nature of work and metamorphosis. The original version was made in 2013, and, after two other versions, it reached its final version in 2021. This version is in which it is possible to identify elements from previous versions incorporated into another context, another composition and another concept, which identified it with the series about the pandemic (Chronicles of the Year of the Plague), which the artist has been developing since mid-2019. The title of the work O Sonho da Razão generates Monsters is a clear reference, in addition to being a reverence, to Francisco de Goya's engraving with the same title: while Dr. Peste rests, the Pest lurks. On an acrylic paint base, the painter worked elements and colored masses with oil paint and some crayon pencil graphics. The work was painted on a cotton canvas mounted on a wooden chassis measuring 100x100x4 cm and is ready to be attached to the wall.
