The Elephants in My Head Print

We are all animated by towering notions, a couple of pillars which guide us throughout are lives. Most of them are not self-constructed, but notions that were passed down to us by our parents. The abstract elephants are the one illustrating these notions. While healing from our traumas we tend to override everything that has been passed down and obtain a clean start. This is foolish, as some elephants are not related to our traumas and they have been built through personal loss and can be of high value. The gold foil stands for this selective value. The sculpted clouds are the shadows of our ancestors, the ones passing down knowledge. The painting encourages an attitude of selective and conscious choice to filter through all our moral inheritance. Abstract acrylic, ink, gold foil and wax pastel painted on cotton canvas mounted on cardboard. Watercolour style background, ink blots, wax pastel drawing and acrylics applied with a painting knife and brush. Hanging materials not included.
