About The Artwork

I am continuously creating and honing my work. I use flowers as a subject for their form, colour and how light interacts with all three. In each painting I am looking for balance but not uniformity, colour but not direct harmony or contrast although this can be a direct result of my composition. Creating a new work for me is about how the painting evolves as it is painted. I instinctively know when it is complete, when I feel I have achieved the colour, form and balance. I hope the viewer will see balance in the chaos of nature, colour and movement in this painting. My aim in painting 'Height of Summer' was to capture the essence of nature in plants and flowers during the Summer. I want to achieve an eye catching piece of work that will add colour, texture and individuality into the home. I chose Acrylic paint for this piece as it is my favoured medium at present. The fast drying properties and water based solutions. I have used brush, palette knife, fingers and splatter techniques I have learned over the many years of my painting career.

"I have always created. I have painted all my life. Painting is a like an itch, a daily requirement, an urge, excitement. Creating is compulsive. I paint constantly, almost 7 days a week and still I love it. My ideas come intuitively, like a compulsion. Predominantly I do not have references, I follow the paint and let something new come to life. I feel all humans are creators, the key is to create our own creations. " Emma has been selling her work on a full time basis since 2003. She was born in South Wales UK and raised by a very creative family. She lived in the historic roman town of Caerleon, then for a few years on the beautiful West Wales coastal town New Quay. Her family finally settled in the beautiful 'Towy valley' in Llandeilo, West Wales. Her home life was idillic, an old farm house in the middle of beautiful countryside with freedom to play outside all day with her younger sister. These early days have influenced her work immensely. She is a passionate and prolific painter. She loves exploring the endless possibilities of harmony between shape, colour, texture and movement. She is part trained and self taught. After her Art foundation course she began a display role in a large furniture company based in London in the exciting late 80's. Emma paints almost everyday in her studio, an 18 century wool factory, which is also her home in south Wales, UK, about 30 minutes from Cardiff. ( NOTE: from April 2023 Emma relocated to Oxfordshire and at the time writing, her new studio is under construction and is working from her home in a quiet village near the Cotswolds) Born of a business, musical and creative family the door was open for her to explore her passion with paint. At the moment she is using mainly acrylic paint, it's fast drying qualities are perfect for the highly textured layered work that she creates. Her work is bold and bursts with colour. You can find her work in galleries and in private and public and corporate collections both home and abroad. "Painting is like life, it's a journey, the joyous moment to moment juiciness of the unknown. Enjoyment of the painting is my passion and once completed it is time for the next one, the journey being as important as the 'end result' Is it bold? clear? fresh? Does it 'pop?' are questions I ask myself at the end of a painting, if the answer is yes then the painting is finished.
