The fact that this most famous painting by Gustav Klimt is often called the "Golden Kiss" is not surprising. And the point here is not only that it is saturated, and in the opinion of some puritanical skeptics - and oversaturated with gold. The couple in love is not only bathed in the noblest of all substances on earth, it is all enveloped in the vapors of a luminous aurum. Gold - for Klimt it is a synonym for love, priceless, dazzling, breaking all concepts of the limits of prudence and ... and good taste. However, the genius of Gustav Klimt was also manifested in the fact that, he didn't cate much about the opinions of both the beggarly envious people and the aesthetic experts from art. He himself was an esthete of the highest standard, heading the already rich and brilliant beauty style, which went down in the history of art as Art Nouveau, Jugendstil of the Viennese model. Art for art's sake ... The singer of the very Zenith of the Habsburg Empire, or as the same Austro-Hungarians called it - "Kakanii", he lived and worked in an era when everything in this part of the European continent was, or at least seemed - in an ideal, perfectly triumphant order ... Gustav Klimt was not just an artist, it is a manifesto of the Golden Age. Both economics and politics flourished at that moment (or pretended to flourish), as well as Philosophy for every taste, from Nietzsche to Freud, and Literature - from Mayerink to Kafka, not to forget Science, and Modern Comfort, oh what a there was an unprecedented comfort - even the pavements in Vienna were "shod" not with gray cobblestones, but with special ones - covered with a noble golden glaze. Even the national question, which had troubled this country for centuries, was seen as peacefully resolved. Let us see this Kiss in a new, my way: A swarthy, strong, handsome Hungarian of the Count Esterhazy is passionately in love with a charming, albeit a little capricious Viennese beauty, don't they merge in a kiss - beautiful, happy, floating on a golden cloud? ... What a glorious couple - Austria and Hungary, united in a pose Love.... And all this with the blessing of the simple-minded, harmless, quite good-natured, understanding everything, seemingly immortal Emperor, who sometimes loves on Sundays, to the sounds of Strauss's eternal waltzes, to ride with his people on the Ferris wheel in the Prater, to fly over the 1908 Vienna, sparkling with all the lights ... Well, noone knew by that time, that until the crushing end of this Golden Age... that until that very shot of Gavrila Princip, this beatiful gilded world will be destroyed... that from the former splendor of the Habsburgs will be nothing left... Well, this picture, living evidence that, at least in art, the golden age can last forever ...
