I am a 24 year old emerging artist currently living at Cork, Ireland, born and raised in Kolkata, India. I’m an engineer by education and current am pursuing research in the Tyndall National Institute. The scientist in me always tells me that everything can be explained; everything is governed by some physical law somewhere. Sometimes, it’s laws we know, sometimes it’s new laws we have to learn. But as I dove into the edge of scientific knowledge, I began to realize there really is something you can’t always explain. Something so simple, so fundamentally basic that we gloss over it on a daily basis, not sparing a moment of thought. Let me ask you this? Let me paint a picture; You wake up in the morning, go over to the balcony overlooking a beautiful sunrise giving the clean blue sky with a refreshing orange glow. You take a sip of steaming hot coffee as you look over the dawn of a new day, birds chirping away in trees near-by. You breath in the cool, moist air and you feel refreshed, excited to start a new day. What you might notice is that, you feel serene. Content. Happy. What you definitely don’t ask yourself is why? Emotion is very subjective. The scene I described above might be refreshing to some, tiring to others. Some might find the boisterous action of Wall Street more appealing, others find the serenity of the country side innervating. I found this intriguing. I had started learning how to paint when I was 2 years old and was trained by many private art tutors. But it was just about the skill-set at the time. The precision, the pressure of the strokes, the colors. But, as all things alive and around us, my art evolved over time, as I began to understand art differently. Now it’s about creation. What do I create, you ask. Simple, Emotion. What I paint usually means something. You can probably describe or explain something I’ve painted to someone over the phone. But that’s just scratching the surface. What’s important is what the painting means to you. Not through words, not through a description or through logic. But emotion. It probably means something to me and something entirely different to you. That’s the point. It’s subjective. It’s indefinable. Inexplicable. All we can do is experience. I am generally partial to acrylic on Canvas and charcoal painting but I experiment with other mediums and new art styles.
