This abstract ink portrait measures 35 x 50 cm. It will ship rolled, securely in a shipping tube. My mother-in-law was the granddaughter of an Italian Marchesa who lost her noble title when she married a commoner. She was a very beautiful and emotionally complex woman whose childhood was marred by WWII; a woman of great independence, ingenuity, nobility and grace. A private woman who knew how to laugh at herself. This art piece is a nod to her as I now work in her studio space, an attic with a view where she did her sewing. Aging is full of surprises and often a little frightening. Still, many women are able to embrace this and retain their youthful spirit and outlook and age with grace and joy. It's a mindset. In any case, there is beauty in every age. Older faces are fascinating, so much living, secrets and wisdom, reflected in the eyes and wrinkles.

Visual and mixed media artist. I returned to painting after a long gap, after suffering a stroke a few years back. What started as art as therapy has become daily, joyful creative play inspired by colour and light, The interplay between words and images intrigues me and I'm fascinated by women - their emotions, connection with nature, relationships with themselves and other women. I'm currently working on a series called 'The women' which celebrates sisterhood. I also explore abstract floral and landscape art. Seeking beauty and sparking joy as part of my personal well-being journey. As Matisse once said, 'There are always flowers for those who want to see them.'
