About The Artwork

Title: „The most hidden of distant places, where the crowing of the rooster pleases the fox's ear.“ Tribute to summer and the past. A secluded house and a sunny morning in the embrace of endless nature. I am inspired by the remnants of past culture that have been displaced by the modern world. Elements hidden in the landscape, such as old wooden houses, stone cellars, and narrow fields on the slopes, awaken my imagination. Hay drying! A few people in my neighborhood still dry hay in the traditional way, and I admire the fragrant piles of dried grass in the summer. The painting is 100% hand painted using quality acrylic paint on canvas. The name of the painting is written in Slovak on the side of the canvas.

My name is Ivana. Ivana Janiková. I am an artist from a small country in Central Europe. It's called Slovakia, maybe you've already heard of it. This is the place where I find fragments of the disappearing culture of our ancestors, and these elements serve me as material for creation. The paintings capture a brief moment of everyday life in a world where people are just a small part of a bigger whole. A simple life, idealized by the nostalgia with which our grandmothers remember their childhood. Wooden houses, the lovely beauty of nature, and lots of details. That is my constant source of inspiration. When I was a child, my grandmother, the painter Irena Zemaníková, introduced me to the topic. She created paintings that were memories of her childhood, and I watched her curiously. In the years 2003 to 2007, I attended the High School of Applied Arts and Design in Kremnica, and later started painting. I have a limited amount of artwork to offer because it takes me 3-8 weeks to paint one painting. But I spend a lot of time on all of my paintings because I want each of them to be special.
