The North Wind Print

The North Wind “Falling Up” is a series of paintings created in response to the Yorkshire landscape. Jagger revisited the area where she grew up to explore the landscape from a new perspective. Her sketches and paintings focus on the flow of water through the landscape, metaphorically water transforming from cloud to rain, then river source to sea, representing one cycle of life. The elements at play suggest the force of nature and inevitable passing of time, the man-made architecture and objects on the landscape provide signposts to locations, time and a human scale. This painting is a direct response to landscape surrounding Malham, a village and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. “The wind sweeps across the land and fields take on an ocean like quality, a barn in the distance is the only figurative lament of the painting, symbolic of refuge from the storm. I want the viewer to feel they are on a journey too, to reach the barn they must travel through the image.”
