About The Artwork

Inside the artist's world... "The artist's world is limitless. It can be found anywhere, far from where he lives or a few feet away. It is always on his doorstep." - Paul Strand I suppose that by now you can tell that my world is filled with penguins. And they are no ordinary penguins, since they live in the clouds, and recently, in trees (which are in the clouds). Why penguins? And why do they live in the clouds? As a child, I've always dreamed of far off places, especially lands that are in the clouds, high above everything else, free to be whoever I want and to go wherever I want. Being in the sky and among the clouds allows for that kind of freedom.. and the ability to FLY! Anyway, when I was preparing for my first solo show last year, I kept painting the sky and clouds, but wasn't sure what else to put in it. That's when I had an idea to put something in the sky that could possibly belong there, though it's not so in reality. Birds belong in the sky.. so what about a bird that can't fly? A penguin!!! Some people have me, why not an ostrich? Why not chickens? They are birds that can't fly too. To be honest, I don't really have an answer to that. And why I keep on creating paintings with penguins remains a mystery even to myself. What I do know is that the underlying message in all of these penguin paintings is simply this: Make your dreams come true. Live the life you truly want. Be the person you've always wanted to be. Dare to fly.

Whimsical art with cute characters searching for our place in the world. I’m on a quest to discover who I truly am, and seeking answers to what life is really all about. Art is a significant part of this personal journey, and also how I share my insights and experiences with seekers like myself. In our daily struggles, it’s easy to lose sight of who we are, and what truly matters to us. Through characters, symbols, and colourful whimsical scenes in my paintings and illustrations, I remind and inspire others (and myself) to keep seeking our truth and become the best possible version of ourselves. www.maryannloo.com www.facebook.com/maryannloo.art www.instagram.com/penguingirl_art
