ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This work explores variety of sources from freehand figure drawing, to templates sampled from fashion photography ( the work of Ellen Van Unwerth to be exact) More abstract shapes and textures inform this painting with an expressive expressionist feel that is underlined by the stark black and white palette. There is also a hint of an acrylic cyan wash that helps the blacks present more boldly. These early works were highly improvisational experiments in expressing raw energy and passion.
