About The Artwork

This is a conceptual image that coveys an idea. I hope it resonates in a humorous and striking way. Animals are great story telling metaphors. This image is about the power of teamwork and it's also a nod to the ritual of two boxers staring each other down. A bunch of small Dashchunds can take on a majestic Great Dane. It's a David and Goliath story with the dachshund on top able to stand tall with the help of his mates to challenge the larger dog. I was exploring using lots of paint in layers to get a very tactile feeling in the picture. I was also trying to get all the smaller dogs to stare intently at the larger dog as a reflection of their determination to stand together and support each other. Painting living beings with lush paint and rich brush strokes, whether human or animal, gives a work the emotional power that drives all expressive communication.
