About The Artwork

Oil on Hard Board. Varnished. This painting was created while visiting my parents in Washington. The west coast as a whole is very inspiring to me. I love the lush green forests, the ocean, and the wildlife that live there. While I was visiting, I continued to hear news of the Puget Sound orcas struggling more and more for food and to keep population numbers up. After spending so much of my life going to the Pacific Ocean, I found it so devastating that the orcas aren’t doing well. I used to love going to the coast and seeing whales off in the distance. So, while visiting, my mom and I decided to take a trip up to the Puget Sound area to take reference photos and enjoy the area. We learned a lot about the marine life in the area, took ferry rides, and explored the little towns. We had a blast and the Puget Sound scenery is so beautiful. The whole trip kept giving me this urge to paint a bit of the beauty that we found and document that the orcas are a needed part of the ecosystem. They need help. There are many ideas on how to help them being discussed, and the solution will be found if the conversation continues. This painting depicts what life for these orcas should be like. With some brainstorming and hard work we can make this a reality again.

I am an American artist living in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. As a lover of all things natural, I tend to paint and draw the natural world and the natural pathways life takes. I've always been curious about the inner workings of life on Earth. I'm also very interested in the emotions and thoughts of people, and I've started experimenting with work based around those ideas as well.
